Robert Vaughn: a short biography

Born Robert Francis Vaughn in New York City on 22. 11. 32, son of Walter Vaughn, a radio actor, and Broadway stage star Marcella Gandel. Raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota by grandparents. Studied journalism, and played Hamlet at the Minnesota School of Journalism. Studied drama at the LA City College, graduating with a BA. Went on to gain his MA and PhD in political science, finalist in the Philip Morris Inter-Collegiate Radio-Acting Contest in 1951, then took first acting job with Alburquerque Summer House Theater as resident director and leading man. Liberal activist. He married Linda Staab in 1974, they have two children, Cassidy and Caitlin.

During the 1980s, he starred in the A-Team and became well-known to all of us as General Hunt Stockwell. One of the episodes, the "Say Uncle-Affair" refers to his earlier success, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Here, he remeets with David McCallum, his former partner, in the role of Ivan.

Robert was partly made responsible for the end of the A-Team along with Eddie Velez (Frankie Santana), as the viewers didnīt like the idea of the team working for Stockwell instead of successfully running away from the military like they had been doing since 1972(!)

He has been working on his autobiography titled "Christ, Shakespeare, Ho Chi Min: As I Knew Them" for some years now, but no date has been set for publication.
